About LabMap

LabMap allows searching for research labs (commercial or academic) by their area of research and location.

Find a PhD, post-doc, or intern position

Find collaborators for a research project

Find commercial companies with a research focus

Find scientific advisors for start-ups, VC, or think tanks

I created LabMap after spending days searching for a new lab to join. With this service, I hope to make this process easier for others (and myself). The project is still in its infancy, so any feedback is greatly appreciated. :)

Technical details

LabMap aggregates publication data from OpenAlex to find PIs and determine their research areas.
LabMap extracts information about publications, authors, and institutions. Kudos to the OpenAlex team! Only authors with at least three last-author publications during the last five years are included. It is done as a way to filter for PIs, as there is no information about PI status in the data. However, it may filter out young PIs. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions on how to improve this.

Despite the best effort of the OpenAlex team, there are still errors in the data. Disambiguation of authors is not a solved problem, so some profiles (including my own) might be merged or split incorrectly.
All lab descriptions are AI-generated based on recently published articles.
It allows focusing on what a lab is actually doing instead of relying on lab descriptions from public sources, which can often be outdated or incomplete. There is no manual validation of the results, except for users reporting errors. So, please, double-check the information before making a decision based on it. They're also updated regularly, so the descriptions may change.
Currently, the service only has health & life science labs.
Now, I filter data to the "Health Sciences" and "Life Sciences" domains in OpenAlex. The limitation comes from the costs of LLMs, as well as differences in publication specifics between fields. For example, in contrast to biology, paper titles in machine learning are not usually descriptive of the actual research done. But if people like LabMap, I'm going to add other fields. Please, propose or upvote new fields to include if you need them!

About me

My name is Viktor Petukhov. I have my PhD in Biostatistics in Bioinformatics from the University of Copenhagen, where I investigated molecular mechanisms of neurodevelopmental diseases. Afterwards, I worked with AltosLabs unraveling aging mechanisms, and as an independent AI consultant. I like creating new tools for the scientific community, learning new programming languages and martial arts.
